Photography (Part 1)

During our time in the Fine Art section of the course, we had a day in the photography studio.
For our first task of the day, we were given a letter and from this had to photograph three objects beginning with that letter. My letter was 'T' and so I found a tap, a roll of tape, and a bobbin of thread to photograph. Not particularly exciting, but it was just to get us warmed up, plus I only had my phone so the results aren't very good quality...

 Next, we were put into pairs and then everyone had to write down an action and a place (in the studio) on two pieces of paper. We then picked one of each, and had to photograph our partner doing what the paper instructed. Firstly, my partner Lydia picked out 'jump' and 'behind the door' so I decided to jump from the staircase outside the room towards the door (glamorous, eh?)

 

 

I then picked out 'gallop' and 'in the corner' so decided to focus on Lydia's feet whilst galloping. I quite like the results (although they're a bit out of focus, I wasn't really sure how to work the camera) as she looks as if she is floating in some of the images, making them quite fun. (Now the photos refuse to resize or move, cheers blogger...)

 

 



 

 

Lastly, my partner chose 'hopping' and 'in the corner.' To make the photograph more exciting, Lydia decided to decrease the shutter speed so my hopping would create blurred, almost abstracted shapes. This was really effective and the results remind me of some of Francis Bacon's work.

 

 

 

 

 

 



'The Big Draw'

On Monday our college took part in the Big Draw, a national campaign to get more people drawing. Our title was 'Head to Head' and we were given a paper bag, on which we had to create a head or face. I chose to focus on the theme of 'Inside/Outside' and decided to create my face using cut out features from paper, and the template of these cut outs to form the other side of the face. My final outcome was very simple but we only had a couple of hours to work on our actual bags, so I thought this was the best decision. On the opposite side of the bag I used the same technique, only I turned the cut out features upside down when sticking them to the bag. This made an amusing face which I really like!
